The hand carved jewelry you see here is made from a very unique substance - Emu eggshell. The Emu egg is made up a three distinct layers. The outer layer has a distinctive texture and is dark green to almost black in color. When the dark outer layer is carved away, a hard, waxy, teal colored layer is exposed. As this layer is removed, a white layer becomes visible. The designs you see are the exposed natural colors of the Emu egg.
Each piece has been coated with a UV protective layer, however, it is a natural product and prolonged direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided to avoid fading of the color.
